Our story began in 1996 when the internet in the Czech Republic transitioned from an academic environment to commercial operation. Those who wanted it and were willing to pay for the connection could read the first internet pages. Among them was the internet catalog and directory Seznam.cz, launched in April with an initial investment of 50,000 CZK by our founder and still the sole owner, Ivo Lukačovič. On Seznam, we initially offered an overview of up to a thousand available websites at the time, categorized into different sections and searchable by keywords. We also provided a ranking of the best domestic sites and an overview of news available on the Czech internet. In this year, we also introduced the first banner advertisement, and our homepage recorded up to 10,000 accesses daily.
