Email Clients and CalDAV with Two-Factor Authentication

If you’ve enabled two-factor authentication on your account and use an email client (such as Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.), a mobile email app, or sync your Calendar, you’ll need to create a separate access password for IMAP/POP3, SMTP, and CalDAV connections.

This special password will only be valid for accessing your email or calendar through these communication protocols.

Your main account password used to sign in to your user account will remain unchanged — this process does not affect it.

The first time you try to connect to the email or calendar server after enabling two-factor authentication, you may see an error such as: “Login to server imap.seznam.cz failed.”

How to set a password for IMAP/POP3, SMTP, and CalDAV

Under Two-Factor Authentication, find the Application Password line and click Set.

You may be asked to confirm that the account truly belongs to you.

In the form, enter:

  • A new password for IMAP/POP3, SMTP, and CalDAV
  • The same new password again to confirm it

Click Save changes to confirm.

Important: The new IMAP/POP3, SMTP, and CalDAV password must not be the same as your current login password.

That’s it! Enter the new password in your email program or app settings. Your email client should now connect to your account. If it doesn’t, try closing the program and restarting it after a moment.

Once this application password is set, it cannot be deleted — only changed. However, if you disable two-factor authentication entirely, this special password will also be disabled. Your account will then once again accept your regular login password for email access.
