Frequently asked questions

What is “Two-Factor Authentication”?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an additional layer of security that Seznam.cz offers to its users. Once enabled, every login attempt must be approved via one of your verification devices.

You’ll be notified, for example, if someone guesses your password and tries to access your account. You can then choose to allow or deny the login attempt.

Do I have to enable two-factor authentication? I’m not interested.

No, you don’t. Enabling two-factor authentication is completely optional. It’s entirely up to you whether you want to use this security feature or continue signing in as you have until now.

I don’t want to give you my phone number!

You won’t be able to set up two-factor authentication without verifying a valid phone number.

Your verified phone number acts as a backup if you want to log in using 2FA but don’t have access to any of your verification devices.

The verified number can also help you recover a forgotten password more easily.

How do I set up two-factor authentication?

You can find a step-by-step guide in our Help section under “Enabling Two-Factor Authentication.”

Note that to enable and use 2FA, you’ll need to install and use an authenticator app. You can choose from a wide range of apps—popular options include Authy, Google Authenticator, and Microsoft Authenticator.

If you use email programs or apps (like Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.), you’ll also need to set up a new password for mail protocols such as IMAP/POP3 and SMTP.

What’s the difference between a verification device and a trusted browser?

verification device is a Seznam.cz browser or app where login notifications will appear, allowing you to approve or deny sign-in attempts.

trusted browser is one where, after logging in and verifying the attempt, you’ve selected an option to skip verification for future logins in that browser.

How can I set Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge as a trusted browser?

Unfortunately, you can’t. Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge do not support the required technologies. With these browsers, login confirmation will always be needed via a verification device. The only exception is the Microsoft Edge app on Android, which can be set as a trusted browser.

You’ll see the same limitation with browsers on outdated systems like Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile—on those platforms, no browser can be set as trusted.

I don’t have a verification device with me—what now?

If you’re trying to log in but don’t have access to any of your registered verification devices, you can choose to receive an SMS code sent to your verified phone number to complete the login process.

I don’t have my verification device or verified phone—what now?

If you’re trying to log in but don’t have access to any verification device or your verified phone, unfortunately, you won’t be able to log in. You’ll need to wait until you regain access to at least one of them. There’s no workaround.

This is why we strongly recommend setting up more than one verification device.

I’ve permanently lost access to my verification devices and verified phone

We’re very sorry, but in that case, you will no longer be able to access your account.

Again, this is why we recommend setting up more than one verification device.

What happens if I reinstall or delete the verification device?

Each installation of the Seznam browser for desktop or the Seznam.cz mobile app has a unique identifier tied to it. Reinstalling or installing the app anew changes this identifier, and the original verification device will no longer be valid.

So be careful!

This is another reason why we recommend setting up more than one verification device.

Is one verification device enough?

Yes, one verification device is technically enough for two-factor authentication. But if you lose access to that device, your only way to log in will be to receive an SMS code at your verified phone number.

As explained in previous questions, there are several ways to accidentally lock yourself out of your account. That’s why we always recommend setting up more than one verification device.

How do I completely disable two-factor authentication on my account?

To disable two-factor authentication, simply remove all your verification devices one by one. Once all devices are removed, you’ll be able to log in again using just your password, without the need for further verification.

However, you’ll also no longer receive alerts if someone guesses your password and tries to log into your account.

I’m not seeing login notifications in the Seznam browser

The Seznam.cz desktop browser includes a feature that checks for new emails and monitors login activity. If you’ve turned this feature off, you’ll need to enable it again.

In the browser settings, look for the Quick Launch option.

If you’re not receiving login notifications in the Seznam.cz mobile app, check your device settings to ensure that notifications are enabled.

You may also need to wait a little—the notification might be delayed. If it doesn’t arrive, you can choose Resend under the “Having trouble verifying?” option during login.

If notifications still don’t appear, try switching networks—for example, use mobile data instead of Wi-Fi.

If notifications only appear when you manually open the Seznam.cz app or browser, your phone might be putting the app to sleep in the background. Each device handles this differently—check your battery settings for power-saving or optimization features and make sure the Seznam.cz app is excluded. Refer to your device’s user manual for details.

I can’t connect through my email program

This is expected behavior if you have enabled two-factor authentication. You’ll need to generate a special password to access your account via email protocols such as IMAP/POP3 and SMTP. This password is separate and used exclusively for email clients.
