Fighting Disinformation

Our homepage is visited by nearly four million people daily. We do our utmost to ensure that only content that does not support hoaxes and disinformation reaches them. Editors and artificial intelligence review articles from our newsrooms, partner websites, and authors on the Seznam Médium platform, as well as discussion posts.

In the fight against disinformation and harmful online content, we collaborate with several partners and institutions. Since 2022, we have been a signatory of the EU Code of Practice on Disinformation. Since 2024, we have been a member of the Christchurch Call initiative. We have thus joined more than 130 countries, tech companies, and partner organizations fighting against terrorist and violent content online.

Content Quality and High Journalistic Standard

We require high content quality not only from our own or partner newsrooms but also from authors who publish their articles on the Seznam Médium service. We have set equally strict standards for it as for articles we publish in the Newsfeed on the homepage.

Cultivating Discussions in the Online Environment

In the discussions under our articles, we focus on fact-checking. Our goal is to correct false or distorted information that our users accidentally or intentionally publish in their discussion posts.

Warnings Directly in Search Results

In Search, it warns about Czech conspiracy and anti-system servers. The evaluation, based on which we determine whether target websites are disinformative, is compiled based on third-party ratings. We collaborate with the Independent Journalism Foundation, the Atlas of Conspiracies project, and the Slovak initiative Konšpirátori.sk. We also use media ratings and website evaluations in the Sklik advertising system. In it, our advertisers can choose whether their ads should appear on disinformation websites.

Fact-Check Database

In the discussions under our articles, we focus on verifying published claims, known as fact-checking. We publish the most common disinformation along with their explanations in this freely accessible database.

Organizations We Work with Long-Term

The goal of the Independent Journalism Foundation is to support the plurality and freedom of Czech media to help ensure the basic prerequisites of a democratic political system and the cultivation of the media environment.

The online database Atlas of Conspiracies currently contains over 270 conspiracy theories, populist framings, and disinformation from the online world.

The public database Konšpirátori.sk focuses on websites with unreliable, deceptive, fraudulent conspiracy, or propagandist content.

Anglo-American University provides additional fact-check control in our database. These activities involve a team of experienced researchers who apply approaches from prestigious foreign universities based on critical thinking and data verification.

The Faculty of Arts, Charles University provides additional fact-check control in our database. A number of experts from a wide range of fields contribute to the cultivation of public debate.

Experts from the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University provide additional fact-check control in our database. Sharing knowledge and contributing to truthful information is part of the university’s social role.
